A return to composing after seven months of silence and detachment, this work was written over a week in July 2019 between Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings. It was revised again in 2022.

My main concern was economy; much of the piece inhabits the middle and upper registers, the timbral gradient is similarly constrained and the metallic melodic fragments repeat. Across four shifting panel-like sections, the austere, weathered scraps of material are echoed, shaded, and hazily overlaid as they flower and mingle.
